Your Computer’s Power Consumption: Should You Care?

Your Computer’s Power Consumption: Should You Care?

Your Computer and Your Energy Bill

What is the impact of your computer's power consumption on your energy bill?

When you’re paying your bills, remember that your computer could represent a small or large portion of the price.

We all know that computers consume electricity. But have you given your computer’s power consumption much of a thought?

After all, your computer—unless you practise black magic—contributes to your electricity bill at the end of the month. Exactly how much so depends on a multitude of factors, namely the power consumption of your computer.

Furthermore, you will never know whether you would be happy with your computer’s electricity drain until you find out; you can’t judge what you don’t know.

Perhaps your computer is using costing far less than you previously expected. Perhaps your computer is consuming far more than what you’re happy with. Or, maybe, its power consumption is just right.

Regardless, we can all find out together—as one (one entity). In addition to that, we will briefly hop through the realm of power saving techniques.

Are Macs Worth It? Most Revealing Arguments from a PC User

Are Macs Worth It? Most Revealing Arguments from a PC User

Are Macs Worth It, or Are They Overpriced?

It is a fact that there is a sizeable portion of people who avoid Apple Macs like they’re a plague. Some even avoid Apple products altogether. Today’s focal question is: do these people genuinely have a point? Are Macs worth it?

Let’s find out.Zucking Your Data

Several people I know laugh at the mere possibility of buying a Mac computer, as they believe Windows is superior. And, to clarify, this is for all circumstances—as if Macs are of no significance.

Indeed, they maintain quite a closed-mind when it comes to comparing technological brands; it’s called denial.

Ignoring that, though, let us first establish a starting point for our investigation. Our initial impression of the Mac.

The myth I find being thrown around rather thoughtlessly is the notion that Macs are overpriced. Moreover, many perceive Macs as being all about the aesthetics, coupled with an incapable operating system and incapable hardware.

With that in mind, let me tell you this right here and now: there’s more behind the mythological curtains of Apple Mac devices!

Perhaps Macs are worth it—for you.

But exactly how much material can we scrape up from behind the scenes? As a 100% PC user, I’ll be your fairly balanced detective for as long as you read this article…

7 Things I Liked About Windows 10 Mobile (Before it Died)

7 Things I Liked About Windows 10 Mobile (Before it Died)

Introduction to Windows 10 Mobile

Apple’s iPhones and the endless selection of Android phones first come to mind when you think of the word “smartphone.” In addition to this, you may have also heard of Windows 10 mobile—the OS for Microsoft’s Lumia smartphones.

Indeed, Microsoft has had a jolly old time in regard to mobile devices—in past years.

With the introduction and widespread usage of Android and iOS, though, Microsoft and brands such as Nokia suffered; from Windows Phone 7, 8, and 8.1, to Windows 10 mobile, they never quite obtained a significant market share.

Elaborating a bit more on Windows 10 mobile—that seemed to be another attempt to claw back your interest. Windows 10 mobile, after all, was designed for an ultimate cross-device experience.

Furthermore, with the Universal Windows Platform, Microsoft really wanted to appeal to developers and consumers alike: the prospect of a single application that can run on multiple Windows platforms, with no problems?

I must say, that idea appealed to me, thus I dabbled in UWP app development for a while.

What’s more, when I went to buy myself I new phone, I looked at Windows 10 mobile. But why would I do this?

In this article, I’ll be outlining several reasons that pulled me into the Windows 10 mobile platform.

By the way, I’m using the Microsoft Lumia 640 (upgraded to Windows 10 mobile).

Why I Abandoned Dual Boot and Finally Gained Back Freedom

Why I Abandoned Dual Boot and Finally Gained Back Freedom

My Journey Towards Using Dual Boot

Dual boot has, for an incredibly long time, been the way I had my computers set up.

To be honest, I am moderately obsessed with operating systems that look good and work well. (Okay, maybe not moderately, as such.)

Therefore, I obviously found my eye stuck on several Linux distributions over the years! The family of Windows operating systems had been my primary driver—for everything I do—since the beginning of time.

Quick: What is Dual Boot?

Dual Boot with Windows and Linux
Dual-booting with Windows and Linux is the most common dual boot configuration.

Fortunately, you’re not limited to installing just one operating system to your computer’s storage drive.

To demonstrate, multi-booting is the way in which you can boot into one of the installed OSs. A menu appearing when you turn on your computer is usually how you would select the OS.

In addition, perhaps the most widely-used form of this is dual boot: having 2 installed OSs to boot, typically Windows and Linux.

Read on in order to learn more about dual boot and its purpose in life.

5 Useful Cross-Dominance Ideas 10% of People Will Love

5 Useful Cross-Dominance Ideas 10% of People Will Love

What is Cross-Dominance and Why Should You Care?

Cross-dominance is the fascinating phenomenon where one favours using each hand for separate tasks. To clarify, this is unlike having a single, dominant hand which is preferred for most tasks.

For example, a person with cross-dominance might favour writing with their right hand but rather brush their teeth with their left.

Dominance amongst the birds.

Also, make that extra effort not to confuse cross-dominance with ambidexterity—for that is something completely different. Well, perhaps not exactly completely different.

Ambidexterity is the ability—natural or acquired—to use both sides of your body equally for all tasks at hand. That task doesn’t have to be at any particular hand, as ambidextrous people don’t have a dominant hand for anything.

If you’re one of the few who is ambidextrous, it isn’t merely the equality you’ve got between your hands. Rather, you have versatility between your hands, consequently enabling you to plough through inconsistent asymmetry, as we see too often.

Who doesn’t want to be shaking Elon Musk’s hand whilst writing all about how he’s taking us to other worlds?

Truly inspirational: Future of the Space Industry: Why Should You Be Excited?

Sounds exceedingly convenient, don’t you think?

Nevertheless, we are here to talk about cross-dominance, not ambidexterity—that’s for another day, you see. Let me engage you with this simple, straightforward question, to begin with:

Do you often find yourself inconvenienced when your non-dominant hand would be better suited for the current situation?

If your answer is “yes” to this question, I suspect you are likely to be left-handed. (That doesn’t mean right-handed people cannot find themselves in the scenario described above, however.) In this case, you should by now be already convinced of why you should be cross-dominant.

After all, if certain tasks are better suited for your non-dominant hand, why not simply use it?

5 Eye-Opening Reasons Why I Happily Block Ads

5 Eye-Opening Reasons Why I Happily Block Ads

Is it Okay to Block Ads?

Whether or not you should block ads (advertisements) is a considerably controversial question, with swarms of arguments for each side. I, myself, use an advertisement blocker when browsing the deep streets of the Internet quite happily, in fact.

Keep in mind that I indeed run this blog and note how I do not display tasteless banner ads.Blocking the Ads

Of course, not everybody thinks like me, which is why I’m supplying the reasons for why you should block ads. This is in face of the arguments for not blocking ads, thus I will attempt to directly oppose them.

But why would you not block ads online?

Certainly, this is a thoughtful question with some solid answers to it, too. To exemplify, here are a few reasonable arguments against the usage of ad blockers, and they all relate to revenue.

Future of the Space Industry: Why Should You Be Excited?

Future of the Space Industry: Why Should You Be Excited?

The Future of the Space Industry Relies on Aspiration

Admittedly, there have been some noteworthy discoveries and achievements with regards to the wonders of space, in recent times. Nevertheless, I do not believe there has been anything sufficiently spectacular that it attracted the attention of the entire world. Do we, with that in mind, as humans, have anything ground-breaking for an exciting future of the space industry?

For example, the last revolutionary moment that demonstrated the promising future of the space industry was in 1969.

That’s almost 50 years ago, to clarify.

Moon Landings

This defining moment in the history of space travel truly captured the attention of the masses; even less space-savvy people could probably recall the first people to put forth boot upon the moon’s cheesy surface.

But where did the same aspiration go?

There hasn’t been an equally breath-taking event to justify anticipating the future of the space industry. That is, until now. It involves the coupling of aspiration and determination to provide a future of the space industry worthy of utmost elation.

Life Is an Illusion: 7 Reasons Why This Is

Life Is an Illusion: 7 Reasons Why This Is

What is Reality, in Reality?

At some point, you go deep into the practice of contemplating life. What is reality? Is life an illusion?

Perhaps you are right, after all, there are so many possible explanations for the fact that life is an illusion. Even Elon Musk realises the abundantly likely chance that we are simply living in a simulation. It’s a:

“billions to one chance that we’re not living in a simulation.”

I often have extraordinary experiences beyond my typical level of comprehension; something makes me dwell on the absurdity of life. In fact, it is almost as if everything around me becomes a counterfeit copy of “reality.”

But what if our perception of “reality” is wrong? We use the concept of reality to describe our conscious experience as a sane human. Although people may call me—from time to time—insane, I still believe in the Grand Illusion.

Moreover, you will find that the “Grand Illusion” is a recurring theme in the Philosophy department of the butter. That you will be somewhat familiar with after avidly reading about why we don’t have free will. However, if you aren’t a real supporter of the butter, here’s the definition of the grand illusion:

Definition of Grand Illusion

Gather round, children, as we discuss some of the possible reasons why life is an illusion. And you cannot deny that truth since the evidence is heavier than the crunchiest butter of all; trust me, I was brought up with proper weather maps.

Does Free Will Exist? You Need To Stop Being The Victim

Does Free Will Exist? You Need To Stop Being The Victim

What is Free Will?

Let us begin our quest by defining what exactly “free will” is: the power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate; the ability to act at one’s own discretion. However, do we really act at our own discretion?

Note that there is a difference between freedom and free will. Freedom is the extent to which one can exercise their free will. Free will, however, relates to how much control one has over what they do. This will be clearer later.

Free Will

You might be lead into thinking, for example, that everybody is free to do what they want, and make decisions of their own accord, thus we all have free will. Perhaps, you consider our present society rich with freedom, albeit this is excluding dictatorships, prisons, and human-rights offenders.

Of course, we may perceive a helpless soul constrained to a fascist concentration camp lacking free will. Although, some people could argue that, in this situation, you would retain some free will—the will to make minor decisions such as moving your body and attempting to rebel against the circumstance, as well as the mere ability to think.

Sound like free will, right? Indeed, but is this true free will?

5 Breathtaking Secrets Elephants Don’t Tell You About

5 Breathtaking Secrets Elephants Don’t Tell You About

Why is This World Unjust?

Could you really believe that everyone around you—even your friends and family—lies about the truth? That’s right. You’re being deceived. It turns out that this tradition of concealing the truth has eventually lead to this dystopian reality where we lie to ourselves.

With this in mind, we can now understand that reality is not as you think it to be. You probably live under the illusion that we are free and what you are told is the reality. On the contrary, reality has, in fact, been crafted meticulously by the elites.

The elites are those who control the human population as if it were puppetry. Accordingly, these demonic creatures silent the free words of society, ensuring nobody leaves their hypnotic trance. They, equally, strategically introduce ideas (or lies) into this grand experiment to really see how far away people can live from the true reality.

One would not expect to simply identify the truth from lies, yet occasionally, the elites slip up. Even so, immense difficulty remains in attempting to trace the activity of the elites. I have, however, stumbled upon a major flaw.

Proceeding countless hours of compiling numerous, hidden, sources of evidence, I am left with several conclusions. As it so seems, elephants are not what we perceive them to be. Why not, in light of this profound discovery, explore further the secrets elephants don’t tell you about?
